Paladin's Journey Dev Log 3

There has been massive graphical updates to this game since the previous Dev Log. We are pleased to confirm that this game has been completed, and will be made available to the public on December 4th, 2021, at the Florida Polytechnic University Game Expo. To celebrate, we've decided to share some of the level design concepts with you a bit early.

In this first example, the player would approach this area from the left. the enemy on the brown platform shoots projectiles, which the player can match with the bow weapon. It would be unwise to attempt to fight the melee enemy on the ground below with a bow, however, due to its long charge time making it difficult to time on such a small platform. It is advised to swap to a faster weapon when enemies get too close. The next melee enemy is far away, though, and the player has a perfect shot with their ranged options.

This is one of the many examples where the player is incentivized to swap between the various weapons throughout the game, benefitting them to upgrade all three as they play. However, This means that they run the risk of not maintaining the ability to defeat enemies in a single hit, if they do not earn enough upgrades. If the player instead focuses on a single weapon type they will sometimes find areas where they simply do not have the tool they need and will struggle, but if they learn to overcome areas like this, they can maintain the ability to defeat even the most powerful foes more easily than if they had balanced their weapons. One example of this is shown in this next example.

Here, the flying enemies will not allow the player to continue safely unless they can dispatch of them with ranged weapons. At least, that is what some may think. By utilizing the Dodge Dash, a move that allows the player to dash through the air and along the ground, evading enemies and projectiles, the player can lure the flying enemies to their demise.

Again, we hope that you all enjoy our game, Paladin's Journey, once it is released at the Florida Polytechnic University Game Expo on December 4th, 2021.
